Welcome to YT! I would definitely not reward the growling and just be patient with the rest. The not looking you in the eye could be a dominance issue. When Alex was a pup he went through a stage where he didn't want to be held or cuddled. Now 10 years later, he doesn't let me out of his sight and is laying on my lap as I type this.
