When Bailey was a puppy - she ran when I tried to pick her up. So, I started bending over to pet then release. I wanted her to know that I wasn't going to pick her up every time I bent over - soon she quit running away.
Then, I would occasionally pick her up, say 'good girl' and treat. After a while, she didn't mind being picked up and the treats disappeared.
Now, she insists that she be carried to bed each and every night!
