I never had any problems . my protocol is i help get the puppy cleaned up, always have a bunch of clean ( bright white bleached dry ) face towels at hand, as soon as the umbilical cord is cut i dry the pup with a towel, nice and clean, aspirate if needed , shaken like "the pendulum" if needed... i usually use one or 2 towels per puppy , and put it back to mom to start nursing. Never had a mom stressed about it , i always keep close of her , i usually sitting right there on the floor beside mom and i have everything i use at hand
