I finally got a response from Sen. Feinstein, and it didn't seem generic! Wow!
Dear Ms. Chan:
Thank you for writing to express your support for the "Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety Act" (S. 3424). I appreciate the time you took to write and welcome the opportunity to respond.
Like you, I believe it is important to eliminate irresponsible large-scale dog breeding activities. As you know, legislation was re-introduced in the 111th Congress by Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) on May 25, 2010, which would require all breeders that sell more than 50 dogs a year to be licensed and to undergo inspections to ensure the dogs are treated properly. In addition, the bill would animal dealers to provide each dog it holds that is 12 weeks or older with a minimum of two fresh air exercise periods during each day, for a total of no less than one hour.
Please know that I will continue to closely monitor the situation regarding puppy mills. I have made careful note of your comments, and will keep them in mind should this bill come before the Senate.
Once again, thank you for writing. I hope you will continue to keep me informed on issues of importance to you. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator
