I've read that some people have had great success with it, it does contain a small amount of an antibotic called Tylan. Some people believe that it's safer to get the Tylan directly from your vet. Here's what one link says about Tylan:

I think I would talk to the vet about this, and see what he thinks. I doubt if short term use would cause any harm.
