Yes, the longer you let them grow the longer the quick will become. My Doodlebug's nails grow so fast its crazy! I usually take him to the groomer about every 6-8 weeks and I've had to take him into the vet for a nail trim between since I am a chicken too.

I'm sure the nail is not grown into the skin and just curled up. Don't stress yourself about getting her nail trimmed. It's just something that needs to be done and some dogs need it done more often. It's too bad you didn't notice while she was spayed they could have removed them then. I had Bogey and Dbugs dew claws removed during their neuter and they did fine.
