Joey's breeder recommended Biogroom cream rinse and conditioner, and I've been very happy with the results. She believed that a conditioner should always be used, because you are conditioning the skin as well as the hair, and it's easier to prevent skin problems than cure them. You can email the Biogroom Company and they will send you some free samples to try, just click on "contact us" and request some samples of the products. Our local Petsmart started selling them or you can buy online.

I use a brush on Joey to get out any tangles, and then finish using a steel comb close to the skin. The puppy coat mats more than the adult coat and I paid special attention to the area under the arms. A good pin brush is really useful in getting out tangles before they turn to mats, and I really like the CC small wooden pin brush. The tips won't hurt skin or pull hair, and tangles come out easily.
