I drive out of the city to a vet who specializes in small dogs, and charges by weight. They explained to me when I had harley in that they only use small amounts to put them under... that small dogs are very delicate especially mine being 3lbs. that made me comfortable. If I were to relocated and require a new vet... that would be my first priority, to assure that they are capable of addressing small dog needs. ALSO I agree with post saying pre-operation blood work is a must! Despite the fact that I'm a broke student, i opted for it, cause I knew I would have been too anxious if I hadn't.
I don't think I have ever heard of being charged by weight?. But then again, I only have small dogs and never asked. However, it is so expensive for a small dog (at my vet) that I can't image they charge by weight because for a large dog, that would cost as much as a small car
I've had 2 of mine done - one spay, one neuter and my vet is great! Totally trust him other than such an expensive place. My co-worker quit going there due to what they charge and started seeing a mobile vet.
