I am not sure what other vets are like, but in my city... Halifax, NS. Some vets do not charge by weight for such procedures... This scared me. I have a 3lb dog, and if I'm being charged the same amount as a 100lb dog, it means they are not made to do procedures on small dogs, or at least do not specialize.

I drive out of the city to a vet who specializes in small dogs, and charges by weight. They explained to me when I had harley in that they only use small amounts to put them under... that small dogs are very delicate especially mine being 3lbs. that made me comfortable. If I were to relocated and require a new vet... that would be my first priority, to assure that they are capable of addressing small dog needs. ALSO I agree with post saying pre-operation blood work is a must! Despite the fact that I'm a broke student, i opted for it, cause I knew I would have been too anxious if I hadn't.
