As for controversy.. I too read and mostly enjoy those thread also, Yet we all notice SOME enjoy it more than others. I enjoy reading those because you see the persons passion and what they truly believe in.. and I appreciate that in others. That is what I love about this place. the love and passion that I believe we all share. |
The problem as I see it is that some folks are trusting and do not get the medical advise or attention. They turn to the site and feel they are getting true/valid information from reputable people . In a time of crisis or when one is looking for a reassuance that they are making a correct decision they often are not thinking clearly and can be swayed by those with a gift of the english language.
When we quote professionals I encourage everyone to stand up and ask questions- when we state our experiences ask questions-ask questions. The more information that you have about a topic the better enabled you will be to make the correct decision for you and your yorkie. People with nothing to hide are more then glad to share their experiences and where the sources of information they are quoting came from.
When I have had problems my vet may state a case where such and such a vet did this for a simular case- I might have a friend who states I saw DR. so and so he treated this for me- in both instances I am gave a way to contact this professional whether it be call write , email or make a appointment. It can amke a differance in the outcome for me and my dog.
If i have been reading a article that I think is of value I will share this and state who wrote it- where you can find it and read it for yourself. I might find different things in this book or article of more value for my situation and you other things in the article.
It does not have to be a professional it can be someone who breeds/handles/grooms/makes dog clothes etc. who has done something very interesting or of interest/need to another. Do I share this person yes. I may call and say" hey Peggy I have a friend who is interested in your forumla that you use on orphan puppies and she has some questions may I have her contact you?" I share the contact information.
With my pm's,e-mails and phone call I always state talk to your vet I am not a vet. Suprising -some folks do not have a regular vet-someone who knows their dog or puppy and will rely on information from this site to make critical deccisions. Look at the threads you see it every day.
I can't stress enough about knowledge- read and ask questions about your breed.
