My Gigio was taken by a coyote. I live in Castle Rock Co with houses all around me two elementary schools near buy. So it can happen any where.
I have two new yorkies but i only take them out with my husband in the front yard on very short leash,
they are pee pad trained (LOL). I do have a mini doxie that only goes outside on a leash.
A coyote can jump a 6 foot fence. They also have a 10 mile radius from there den.
Never let your yorkies outside alone or put them on a leash, always be outside with them, maybe have a dog run with a cover.
Have an air horn, whistle, air gun or bebe gun in hand. Maybe even have a baseball bat or golf club near buy too.
One more thing is to get a spiked collar, coyotes will go for the neck.
