Sad to say, I had a friend with an 8 year old Yorkie that grew up with the pool and even went swimming with the people with a life preserver on and they found her drowned one day. Her long hair weighed her down.
In rescue we would not adopt to people with a pool unless it had a fence around it but the bigger message should be to never let your little one outside without someone with them at all times. To many things can happen from predator animals, to someone stealing the dog or in this sad case, drowing.
