Question Very strange potty training setback...any ideas?

Rocco is 7 months and has had no accidents in the house for months. Now that he's doing so well, he has recently had more free access to the house, including the hallway area of my ranch which has a bathroom and bedrooms off of it. This week, he has peed 3 times in the bathroom, right in front of the toilet!! Then yesterday, my teenaged daughter told me she heard him barking and found him in the bathroom, barking at the toilet!!??? She took him out to potty within about 15 minutes of that (he was at the back door); she didn't think that maybe he was 'asking' to go when barking at the toilet (which is what I thought when she told me about it). Any ideas on how to stop this before it becomes a regular habit? Has anyone else had this problem?
