you cannot feed him french fries, that can be dangerous for his health. (can cause pancreatis) even though beneful is not a dog food i would recommend. i think it's important to keep him on that food and make a switch to a better dog food gradually as to not cause stomach upset/runny poop.
does he like chicken? you can boil some chicken breast and put it in the blender with a little bit of water, and then mix the chicken paste with his current dog food.
