I am sorry that you are going through so much right now..

I honestly don't think that you should keep an animal just because you feel obligated to. If this little one isn't fitting in then he deserves to find him a new home where he is accepted and loved as part of the family.

Just make sure, if you do plan to rehome him, that you take all precautions and make sure that his new home and family are the best fit for him. Good luck with your decision.
