Hi--I am a newbie and have a 9 week old puppy (Sophie) I am trying to introduce to a household with a 2 year old yorkie(MJ). MJ has always been very submissive and easy to get along with. She visits my friend who has 6 small dogs and stays while I am out of town. She gets along with all those dogs very well.
Since bringing Sophie home, MJ runs and the puppy chases her, trying to sniff and nip her tail. MJ growls low and acts as if she is going to nip, but just fakes it, not touching her at all. They run all over the kitchen and den like this until I save MJ and put Sophie in her kennel. Sophie just wants to play. BTW, this is exactly what MJ does to our cat. They manage to play somewhat each in their own way and is why I wanted to get a playmate for MJ. How can I get MJ accustomed to Sophie? Will she ever accept Sophie? Help---this is making my family crazy----and my husband says-- I told you so!
