I also was worried about a car seat cause before Sprocket came to live with us he had been allowed to be free in the car and sat the lap of who ever was driving's. NOT ME! I was afraid of that and it's not safe, for anyone. I bought at petsmart an outward hound brand. It hangs off the back of the car seat from the head rest by a buckle and a buckle around the car seat it self, both of these are adjustable. It has mesh sides, a firm edge so Sprocket can rest his head on it and watch me. But a very important, to me, a factor was it has a clip on the inside so that you can attach his harness to the seat. He can't jump out. He can move around, lay down, watch the cars out the window, but not get out. OH I forgot the whine and cry part, he wants to ride in my lap. I also, put 2 or 3 old phone books underneath the seat to support it as it hangs kinda high, so Sprocket can see out the window
. Some toys and he's ready to go, the car is one of his favorite places. Good luck with the seat, sometimes it takes MANY treats to make it work, but it's worth it!
