I buy a years worth of Heart Guard Plus from the vet, and I know I pay more than if I were to buy them over the Internet. I do a lot of phone visits with my vet that he never charges for, so I don't mind giving him a few extra dollars. I only have Joey, so it's not big deal, but if I had more than one dog, I'd look for better prices. Some places will call your vet for a prescription, just make sure it's a U.S. company, and not a counterfeit product from another country.

The reason some companies will sell you without a prescription is that they say they have a vet online, but a real vet would insist that a heartworm test be given first. I wouldn't buy from company that would do it without a prescription; you just don't know the safety of the product. Lots of counterfeit products out there.
