I would recommend them taking a special blanket to the hospital to get that "new baby smell" all over it and bringing it to the dog before the baby comes home. The dog will most likely tear in to it and roll around all over it to cover up the scent, but better it than the baby. I also let my dogs sniff at diapers (clean and dirty) just to get them over that initial excitement.
When she first comes home, suggest that she allow someone else to carry the baby through the door, so she can greet the dog first.
I also let the dogs sit nearby (close enough to smell, but not touch) while I was nursing because they were so curious about all the sounds that a little baby makes when it gets hungry.
And for awhile, no matter how good the dog has been in the past- there should always be 2 adults in the room anytime both the baby and the dog are in the same room.
