My older dog Jess is female and very protective of her territory.
I have had my new female yorky pup Poppy 2 weeks now and Jess dosnt really like her but she is getting better.
When I first brought the pup home Jess was totally huffed and wouldnt even sit in the same room as the pup but now she will and sometimes she sits next to her.
She dosnt like the pup getting too close to her just yet and will bark if she does.
She also barks at her if she is getting a bit carried away when playing but she has never gone furthur then the one bark.
She seems to be coming around to the idea of having another dog and I think the barking is just Jess's way of putting the pup in her place.
They are never left alone together and we have a play pen for Poppy to play in, this seems to work better because Jess can get up to the pen and investigate and get to know the smell of the pup without being able to get her if you know what I mean.
Introducing a new dog is always going to huff the origional dog but in time they will come around
