About 20 years ago, I had a springer and we were told in obedience class to shake the puppy by the scruff of the neck as a form of correction. This is really, really an outdated training method and for anyone saying the mother dog does it, yes, she picks up her little puppies by the scruff, but that stops after the puppies start maturing. I've never seen a mother dog pick up an older puppy like this, but I don't breed either. Can anyone give input on this?
I wouldn't encourage using this method when there are much kinder, and more positive methods of correcting or even training dogs. I taught a dog of mine, who was born to bark, to bark on que and it really helped with her not barking incessantly at other times. You might try finding other ways to make the puppies quit barking or tone it down.
Frankly, I am one of those people who love the pandemonium my arrival home creates and encourage it. My mother lives with me now, and if she doesn't like it, I'm sorry, there are only so many compromises I am willing to make and that isn't one.
