I had a Yorkie that did that (my first Yorkie). We rescued him from a bad situation, and as soon as we brought him into our home he found the kibble in the bowl and start taking mouthfuls and hiding bits here and there. I thought it was probably because before we got him, he lived with other dogs in a competitive situation, and he hid the food so that there would be some for him when he got hungry. He relaxed about it and stopped doing it after he realized there would always be food in the bowl.
