This happens, I know what you mean. Dogs can metabolize some meds very different than humans. So sometimes, they not only need a higher dosage, but also increased frequency.
For example, my Wylie takes a pill for hypothyroid. Most humans take a pill for that once a day. Because of the rate at which dogs metabolize this drug, it should be given twice a day, for optimum results.
