For Diamond's safety and yours, I would advise against driving with her on your lap, even if she seems to be calmer being close to you.
The seatbelt is great and probably safer than a doggy seat, so I'm going to contradict myself and say try a Snoozer doggy car seat. It has a harness holder and many YT members have had remarkable success with these seats calming their dogs. (I have the Petgear booster and I am thinking about trying the Snoozer for my younger boy).
Some people argue that the safest way to transport is in a crate. I used one for Max for a long distance trip and it did calm him. He doesn't like to be crated in the house alone, but he did find comfort in it in the car. |
