I guess I come from a different perspective on this. I worked in a grocery store and in restaurant when I was younger. Admittedly, this was a long time ago and in California which regulates everything to the Nth degree! Any hoo, the owners of both places had very, very strict health codes they had to follow. And no animals other than service animals was one of them. Looking the other way on something could cost them a huge amount of money in fines, and even get the establishments closed if they incurred too many infractions.
The worst that will happen to me is I might get asked to leave. But I wouldn't want my feeling above the rules to get someone else in trouble.
