I take Mia in everywhere to be honest. But she is in one of her carriers. She is very quiet as long as you don't set the bag on the ground. You can ask my hubby about that one. He learned that a 2# yorkie can scream loud enough to get the attention of an entire grocery store. But I have not sinned in that way. Mia loves going to Wal Mart, and is welcomed in many of the stores we frequent for tack. If they ask what is in the bag I tell them, if not they will never know.
