My older boy also started early. Leg held high, perfectly perpendicular to the floor.
Once I took his piddle pad out of the xpen and placed it on a freestanding mat (no walls or objects nearby), he started squatting and lifting one foot an inch or two off the floor.
Strangely, Max still hikes his leg outside in the middle of the lawn.
