I had a similar issue, but didn't get too many responses. When we first got our pup he would go outside with no problems. Then I got on the forums/internet and saw they aren't supposed to be outside in areas other dogs may be using, so I kept him inside, in a pen with pads on one side--which worked well. Then around 12 weeks. I took the pads away, and decided to try taking him to a small are a outside. He no longer wanted to poo out side, only pee--he'd hold the poo all day if he had to. We'd stay out for long periods of time, and nothing but he'd run inside and poo.

I got a book on training and it said not to expect much out of them until 16 weeks when they are able to "hold it" (#1 and #2) for longer periods of time. So I decided to wait until he was 16 wks and stop stressing over him not wanting to poo outside. b/c it was becoming frustrating.

This week he turned 16 weeks, and sure enough he's been sleeping through the night with no accidents on his pad. So I stopped using his pen w/ the pad, and started small-crate training friday night. According to my vet's nurse, sometimes dogs get used to the feel of the pads on their feet--so I put the pad outside on our concrete patio (which i thought may have a similar texture to the pad as well) and not the grass (from the previous experience he just liked to play in/eat the grass for the most part). He pee'd on the pad right away and poo'd a few minutes later away from the pad on the concrete. I follow a schedule with giving him food/water and putting him in the crate and so far, after two days we're about 95% of success. We have had 2 accidents inside in the last two day--my fault--I was on the computer and not paying attention.

As the day 1 went on I made the pad smaller, by folding it, so he'd purposely "miss it" when peeing, and get used to the feel of the concrete on his feet even though the pad was still there. Today I took the pad away by this after noon. He doesn't seem to miss it thus far. He's now peeing on grass, but still poo'in on the concrete---but hey, atleast it's outside right?

Hopefully we'll get to the end of the week and have 100% no accidents inside.

Sorry for rambling on but hopefully something in my experience can help you.
