Our cream colored leather sofa and loveseat are about 10 years old and the favorite resting spot for our elderly Boxer, Boo as well as the Yorkies. With the exception of a few scratches - silly Boo - they are in great shape. They are very easy to clean (use Murphy's Oil Soap and a sponge).
There are different grades of leather and before I purchased one, I'd do some research, request to see a swatch of the leather that the manufacturer uses (aka color swatches) and purchase the best quality (not necessarily the most expensive) leather that you can afford.
Below is a picture of a "drawing" that my Chattie did several years ago. I call it
Blue Ink Sketch on Leather Couch Canvas". The ink was a challenge to get out but with diligent scrubbing and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser it came completely out. If it had just been me I would have left her drawing in place

but hubby found it distasteful.
