You can try to put warm compresses on it to help alleviate the pain. Sound like she blew a vein and it bled under the skin. Its basically a big bruise. Keep an eye on it..I'm not sure about a red squiggly line. If it runs down the top of the actual vein, call your doctor.

I always try to drink a lot of water before getting my blood drawn. Being dehydrated doesn't help when they are looking for veins. I too, have horrible veins and they love to go for my hands which I really hate.
