That's total bull to wait til he's a year. I am a groomer and we cut tons of yorkies before they are a year old. I gave all of mine their first haircuts before they were one year old. It does nothing to their hair except make it shorter, obviously. If the hair is becoming too long and too much to take care of, cut it. It's much better than the alternative of letting your yorkie get so out of control that he gets matted and then he has to be shaved bald or dematted which is a VERY painful process if you choose the latter.
