Motels such as Drury Inn (which is a great chain even without your dog) do not charge extra for your pets. There are numerous others that do not charge or charge minimally.
No way would I patronize a chain that wants to penalize you for traveling with your furry family members for an outrageous sum of money. They claim it's because of the possibility of extra cleaning. I've seen some pretty nasty looking/acting skinkids that I'd charge plenty extra for, and they can make a whole lot more noise than a couple of little barks.
Either way, sneaking a pet in, unfortunately, puts you in the wrong, no matter how you slice it. Gives management an awful lot of rights to use whatever remedies they might want. Personally, I don't like turning that kind of power over to anyone, when I don't know what the consequences are going to be.
