Ask your vet, first and foremost
I don't know anything about prescription diets, but Jackson (who is a healthy 16lb dog) eats 1/2 cup of Acana Grasslands per day. By the bag standards, this would be too little, but the bag (I've found) often over-estimates, and a dog that needs to lose weight probably needs to be fed a little less.
