Levi wears his collar every single time we leave our house no matter what...even if we are just going down the street for a quick walk or going to visit my parents' house. Their yard isn't fenced in and though I trust them to be careful not to let him out the door, I'm not taking any chances. His collar is fitted correctly and has three tags: ID tag, rabies tag, and a tag that explains that he is microchipped.
Of course we use a harness for walking...the collar is just for ID safety measures.
