Default Questions on heat - how does it affect puppy?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and tried to search for threads on this but didn't find one that dealt with my questions. My husband and I just got a yorkie male 3 weeks ago (7 months old) and a female 1.5 weeks ago (10 months old). Neither were spayed or neutered, and we planned to do so with both once they were here a few weeks and adapted well. However - the female just started her heat! I had a yorkie girl before but never had a dog who came into heat, and have a bunch of questions:

She seems to need to urinate more often, is that typical?
The male is completely house-trained, and she is doing fairly well - will the heat affect her training?
Although the male has established himself as dominant, she seems more tired and sad, is that normal?
Do yorkies have pain with their heat?
Is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable?

The male is high energy and relentless with play, so we're both trying to calm that, and allow them ONLY supervised play together (no accidents!) and keep them separate when her critical time comes. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!!
