I know some breeders will tattoo their dogs before they sell them. My parent's dachshund, Lucy has the inside of her ear tattooed, I know sometimes they will do it in the inner thigh as well. None of my dogs are chipped or tattooed, which Im fine with, however, I do think it is a great idea. Good Luck
