Pixie is almost two years old now but it was hard when she was little to leave her all day. I work 8 -5 5 days a week. At that time I lefted her in a 5x6 foot area with water, pee pads and a gate to keep her in place. That is a big window and lots of light and of course lots of toys.
Since she has been year old we let her have most of the house. We put a gate up in a hall way that keeps her in the livingroom, diningroom, kitchen, and coat room. She has all of her toys and she know when we are home. She is right at the back door with her favorite ball just waiting for us to home in to play.
