I don't think your being selfish at all and I commend you for trying to get this baby to a safe place.
Just last week we went to a ladies house who is rehoming her Macaw parrot. This parrot has been rehomed 4 times and when I got to the womans house it was just a war zone, her house was a disaster never seen anything like it. She was a hoarder and her house was just nasty. THe conditions of the cage were so horrible that we told her we would give her 600 cash right there to get the bird out of the situation, Unfortnately she didn't wanna take our offer. But the cage was in such bad condition that it would need to be power washed a few times
Wish I could of saved that parrot but just was not possible.
