Welcome to YT! I would try more positive training though. Right now I think your dog might be associating attacking the pup with getting put in the cage. I don't know exactly how to fix the behavior but I know it can be done with clicker training and positive reinforcement. I know Victoria Stillwell ran an episode where dogs didn't get along. Mayb try to go rent a couple of her episodes from the local video store? Good luck! I know I wasn't much help but for now try keeping a leash and harness on your baby for the time being and distracting with treats.
