My biggest question is what's the typical length of time for a yorkie to be in heat? I don't know if it matters, but she's small (6 lbs) and the vet guesses that she's about 5-6 years old. Should I expect a lot of bleeding? Do the diapers work? Is there anything special that I should be doing for Josie? I'm keeping her away from all male dogs!

Thanks very much!
Typical Heat is 21 days.

Now in response to your groomer telling you she's in heat. Question did the groomer observe that there was bloody show? If if not, the possibility exists that she has been spayed, however, a bit of ovarian tissue could have been left in tact. This would cause all the signs, except bloody show, of a female in heat. Having an estrogen test on her, as well as an ultra-sound would reveal whether she is in tact.
