Most of my pups have LP at varying stages and none has required surgery. Unless there is a problem with ambulation all of the time coupled with pain, it is not suggested by my vet or the orthopedic surgeon I use for orthopedic cases. I see you are in Texas and from a link you gave in some other link on the forum about Channel 25 news, it's probably pretty close to where I live. What ortho do you use? You are right about not going to a specialist just yet. I'll be watching for other signs of pain and discomfort.

I use Dr. Beale at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston for any orthopedic cases I get. www.gcvs.com

They are pricey, but excellent facility and he is a great surgeon!
