My Teddy does the happy potty dance. He kicks his hind legs out (one at a time) with such vigor and pride, and when I cheer him on, he almost looks like he is doing the moonwalk. 
I saw this discussed in another thread awhile back and someone wrote that the kicking and scratching has something to do with the instinct to spread the dog's scent. |

Nicky does that a lot. Makes me so proud and tickles me pink, I don't know why I get such a kick out of it
I compare it to a bull getting ready to charge too
He knows I'm watching, so he exaggerates it sometimes and yeah, it looks like he's doing the moonwalk. My hubby told me that the other day Nini, my little girl, did it (or tried) to do it too. Definitely Kodak moments for me.
