Most states and cities say that an animal must be up to date on rabies vaccine - meaning they must be protected, usually with a 3 year vaccine. Most laws say nothing as to how often, just that the dog must be current on vaccinations against Rabies. From what I understand, there are over 100 reported cases of Rabies in Tennessee annually, so some areas in that state require yearly vaccination, even though it makes no medical sense (in my opinion).
