My little yorkie puppy had kennel cough when I bought her also. Thankfully, I noticed while I was there. ALL of her vet bills have been taken care of, including treating my other puppy (pomeranian).
It took "Princess" 6-7 weeks to get over Kennel Cough. And had to take her to the vet 1-2 times a week. She was on 4 rounds or antibiotics until we found one that kicked it out of her. Including two cough medicines. One for daytime, one for night time so she could sleep without the bad coughing episodes.
I know it is very important that they are seen right away for Kennel cough so that it does not develop into something much worse.
I also used a small cool mist vaporizer on her. And we also would put Princess in the bathroom with us when we took our showers each day. The humidity/mist helps with breaking up the mucous in the chest and calms down the coughing also.
If Princess did not show signs of improvement, they would keep her at the vet for nebulizer treatments. These also can be done at home if you have the proper instructions and "equipment" to do this.
My little one is now fully recovered from this. But it was a rough 6-7 weeks for her and for us. Thankfully, I am home 24/7 and gave her constant care.
For the first week, she slept in my arms and my daughters so that we could keep a close watch on her. Princess really had kennel cough very bad. I worried about losing her.
I will be praying for your little one. Please update us on your little ones vet visit today. I think most vets will also work with you, on payment. Even if you have to leave a post dated check to cover her vet bill. I am fortunate that one of our vets will bill us. But, one of the vets is also was our neighbor and friend. We have been going to this vet office for about 7 years. Not sure about what our other vet office would do in regards to working with us for payment. I like having 2 vets now, so if one vet can't see our dogs, cats or bunnies right away the 2nd vet will as a walk in 7 days a week. And believe me, we have needed this when Princess was so sick with kennel cough. She has not even seen our regular vet yet. But will be soon. |
