A five year old yorkie can be trained!
I started one of my dogs in agility at seven and a half years old as she was the youngest dog in the house that I had to train to compete. She was nearly nine and got her novice standard and novice jumpers titles in two weekends. To get titles, they have to have three qualifying runs under two different judges. She also got the titles with four first place runs and two second place runs. I was so proud of her!
Unfortunately, about a month later, she was diagnosed with lymphoma and instead of agility trials, we went to the vet for her chemo. She was eleven when she died. I had gotten Libby to foster when she was one year old, placed her for a year, had her returned to me and kept her. I was trialing two dogs at the time, so didn't start her training until they retired.
