Sounds like you have a bashful pup. I think praise might work in this case too. Limit her freedom of movement in your home so that you can supervise her closely around pooping time. When she poops in the correct place, throw a party. Go nuts (without scaring her), say something like "good poopies!" and give her an extra special treat. The goal is for her to think it is a really good thing.

If you see her start to look for a place to poop that isn't her pad, direct her verbally and physically to the pad. Never scold. If she poops in the wrong place, pick it up and show her that it goes on the pad. Then pick up the pad and show her how you happily dispose of it.

The key is exuding happiness and praising. Make it a fun ritual, and be sure to hide any frustration over training.

What kind of pan do you have? Is it the frame that holds the pad? When she is in the xpen, does she poop on the pad or just randomly because she is pent up?
