I would check the concerns with your vet. Your baby might need one of the tummy pills like Tagamet, to reduce acid production. That usually is not used for long term, though. He is too small to fast for 12-24 hours, IMO. Definitely ask about NutriStat or such. Also, you might boil the rice but add enough water to leave some rice broth. Use that in an extra water dish..Keeping him on some nutritious liquid might help.
What brought on this episode in the first place. Was he really, really constipated? If so, canned/cooked pumpkin can be used..If he is doing okay with the food change I would keep him on it til the new stuff comes. Then, start all over with trying to gradually change....
