Just today I finished one more dress for Jessica. I like to do designer clothes that matches with mine. I knit for myself too, but since I have had Jess I like to knit for her more (seems like I am a really yorkie freak
)Unfortunately, I don't have a camera with me right now to show her clothes, but if I have a chance, I will send some pics in near future.

My advice is to start practicing making a scarf with cheap yarn
I am not sure about cheap yarn - sometimes cheap yarn is more hard to work with
I would recommend to take something like wool/acrilic.
