My family have always been big gardeners. You name it, we've grown it.
Now that I live in a condo, I use boxes on my window sills on the south side of my place for my herbs. Can't do veggies cause I can't pollinate, ya know?!
Sounds like a fun project. You may have to water a bunch since the depth of the dirt in the box is not the same as being in the ground.... and watering in the the evening may help so the plants get the benefit of absorption overnight when its cooler.
