I used only a harness on Rocco and left it on most of the time so he'd be used to it. He now also wears a collar (since 5 months old), primarily for his id tags and also the noise helps me know where he is. That said, Rocco also HATED his harness when he was so young. I would first let him smell it, bite it, play with it, then before I put it on him I'd give him a treat (not a training treat, but a special one he loved even more) to distract him. Within a week he didn't mind the harness and I kept it on him most of the day.
